Girls, why do you shave your armpits- when most guys do not bother to shave? Social norm?

SW-User
We are not supposed to smell bad, I guess
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard not making a case just answeing about social norms.
Both sexes stink after sweating, I suppose.
SW-User
@friendinneed but then is it sexists to say men work harder? LOL
This could go on all night...I never knew underarm hair was such a hot topic, to be honest.
Shave or don't the question asked about social norms and I gave one possible reason.

@SW-User Thank you for your answer.. I appreciate it.

I only wax them but I don't maintain them to the "2-4week" time constraint. I'm often more hairy than I am hairless. And I couldn't care less.
My body. My laziness. Deal with it! Or don't!
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
You might be right. It IS a social norm. But I am a person who doesn't care social norms. So I don't shave. :-)
friendinneed · 41-45, M
@Loretta78 That's nice..
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@friendinneed Shaving armpits is for me no sign of beauty or not beauty. For me it has something to do how someone feel most comfortable. I guess everyone has to decide on its own whether they shave it or not: Men AND women.
friendinneed · 41-45, M
@Loretta78 I understand your perspective <3
sillysweetgirl · 26-30, F
Cause when people look at girls they usually expect/want you to be hairless in certain parts. So now its normal
Sarah123 · F
armpits are the easiest part to shave afterall
Sarah123 · F
@friendinneed it certainly looks better and is more hygenic... i waxed this summer down there
friendinneed · 41-45, M
@Sarah123 Well, it is your personal choice.. It might "look" better to some people. Not sure why it is more hygienic..
@friendinneed It isn't if one bathes regularly. But that's the way women are indoctrinated.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
Because hairy armpits look masculine.
friendinneed · 41-45, M
@FreeSpirit1 Never thought of it in that angle..
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
Body hair just grosses me out in general, no matter who it's on.
BlueRain · F
It’s the norm and it’s gross not to. It’s a lady like thing.
It’s feels weird to have hair prickling at my arms >.<
PlumBerries · 31-35, F
[c=#7700B2]it looks and feels better[/c]
FreeOrchid · 36-40, F
Less sweating
friendinneed · 41-45, M
@FreeOrchid I thought you sweat the same amount with or without hair..
FreeOrchid · 36-40, F
@friendinneed I sweat more when I haven’t shaved or it feels that way to me
cleaner no smells less sweat to and looks a hell of a lot better to

@Elizabeth28 Don't yell, I didn't say anything else.
@bijouxbroussard i porefer to keep clean shave after all im MTF trans so i rather keep clean like girls do and less odor as awell i use deodorant ect its cleaner better ty
plinkplonk · F
Hair harbors bacteria and stench. I feel cleaner without armpit hair.
plinkplonk · F
@bijouxbroussard Gosh, I wish that made sense. The majority of sweat glands, are found in large numbers on the soles of the feet, the palms, the forehead and cheeks, and in the armpits. Not your head.
@plinkplonk You're right, that was a side thought, although people do perspire in their heads. Actually, the OP's point was that it's considered a hygiene issue only when women don't shave, yet men have a comparable number of sweat glands, and generally, more body hair.
plinkplonk · F
@bijouxbroussard Oh, my ... I didn't even GET the point of the post. I was just answering from my perspective. Thanks for clarifying ☺
OpenlyHonestly · 31-35, F
Hairy armpits repulse me in some way. Therefore I wish men shaved them too.
Just used to doing it, I suppose. I was raised that it's part of being "well-groomed". I recognize that it is a sexist practice.
friendinneed · 41-45, M
@bijouxbroussard Very true!
@friendinneed And you can tell from the answers how well indoctrinated we are. Most of us think we stink if we don't remove our body hair. But we probably don't think men do.
friendinneed · 41-45, M
@bijouxbroussard Can't agree with you more..
SW-User
Sounds like you like Neanderthal women.
friendinneed · 41-45, M
@SW-User How do you know about my choice? Since I just asked a question- didn't provide my opinion..
caccoon · 36-40
I like the way hairless looks better, and I find it easier to keep clean there.

But of course, it's been programmed into me.
