Weird generational thing, I think. Only people I knew who used them other than young people recently, and gay people since AIDS started, were soldiers overseas. And we more often used them for keeping dirt out the barrels of our rifles, than we used them for their intended purpose.

A couple other options you should think of so you don't end up with a kid while you're a kid, and potentially save some money on the rubbers are coitus interruptus (that's the pull-out method) and natural family planning (that's called the calendar method, it's where you track your fertile cycle).
Get on the Pill, or get a diaphragm as soon as you can, though. Far safer and more reliable than rubbers. Rubbers only work when the boy uses them correctly, and if someone hasn't shown him how to put them on in the proper way, they have a tendency to break at the moment of orgasm.
