So am thinking that a good way of dealing with school and life demands is to train in not only reading, but printing, writing, typing, arithmetic, drawing, painting, and some basic record-keeping (keeping a reading log, calendar and phone-and-adress book) in the 4.5-6-year-old window so that one is not so turned off by them.
If one gets into the habit of doing things like this early so they they don't come across as unfamiliar-even-alien burdens that are unpleasant, difficult time-consuming, off-putting etc one will do them as a matter of course fairly automatically without an excess of thought and aversive emotion. This is a conversation I should have had with the parents in 76 or so.
