This must be what “fake news” is.

So I live in North Central Indiana. A man went to our local mall and shot another man in the head, killing him. The shooter was in an orange hoodie and black pants and escaped. National media such as Daily Mail got a hold of the story and is saying a man wearing a clown mask wearing an American flag shot into a crowd...

That’s not even remotely close to what the witnesses have described.

Why lie?

They have to control the narrative. putting him in a clown mask means no race, wearing an American flag suggests Trump supporter.

Things are invented, faked, and even made up. It's ironic, because the newsmagazine shows have lawyers literally in the control room watching the show be made, and jumping in if someone says something actionable. This is because one big lawsuit can end a show.
