I really am diabetic

The choice on sw is I am not diabetic and I am pre-diabtic.
I am diabetic type 1. I was diabetic since I was a kid. My blood glucose right now is 3.1 which is not hunkydory! I am swigging lucozade as I write.

You need to inject insulin with tnat but also need to limit sugary drinks.

@Spoiledbrat Yes. I wear an insulin pump. It sends insulin into my body every three minutes. Then if I eat, I tell it how many grams of carbohydrate and it injects insulin.
I can drink sugary drinks and eat chocolate but I don't because I would have to programme the pump and I can't be faffed!

@Spoiledbrat you don’t want to be injecting any insulin when you’re hypoglycaemic- she needs to raise her blood sugars, not lower them

@SW-User So right. I always have lucozade in my college bag. My college is so lovely. My class teacher has put dextrose tablets around the college and explained why I might need them. And if I ask for one, the technician wanders around 15 minutes later and asks me "You alright?" He's really checking up on me!
I was just saying in general. That's what she needs to do when she eats.
Juice is what's recommended. @Blodyn

@Spoiledbrat Normally I test my blood glucose. If it's less than 4 it tells me how many grams of fast carbs. It's lucozade time! If it's ok I tell it how many grams of carb I am going to eat and it calculates how much insulin I need and tells my pump to inject it!

@Spoiledbrat Lucozade is faster. Believe me. I been doing it all my life! Why do the experts always know better? You tried being 0.9 and getting out of a hypo? Well I have!
Yes you said that. I believe you. I wouldn't want to drink soda everyday myself. The doctor recommends huice. I know because my son was diabetic. @Blodyn
If you wale up low you may be getting too much insulin or skipping a snack. @Blodyn

@Spoiledbrat Your son carries juice? Ok if it works. My school rucksack has always two bottles of lucozade in the side pocket. And my school has dextrose tablets in three different locations. If we go hypo the time is really short!
He used to when he was here. Dextrose tablets would be good. @Blodyn

@Spoiledbrat Are you male or female? If you're female you have to remember that insulin and oestrogen interract with each other. And when I'm premenstrual I need more insulin and when I'm ovulating I need hardly any insulin at all.

@Spoiledbrat Glad we agree on something!
Female. But that wasn't an issue my son obviously. @Blodyn

@Spoiledbrat No. But I need you to understand we each have our different ways of getting glucose into our blood. And that can vary according to our life style. Diabetics don't sit around waiting to die! I am an Art student training to be a life guard at the college pool! I know Lucozade can set me right in 10 minutes.
And juice works 15. That's what I'd be taking. Because soda is bad. @Blodyn

@Spoiledbrat I know. But it's teeth or life! I been 0.9. Minutes from unconsciousness!
I know it's hard to regulate your blood sugar but youll get it. You just have to keep working at it. @Blodyn

@Spoiledbrat Thank you. Juice wrecks teeth too. Anything that contains glucose whatever form. Fructose. Same thing. When you have personally been diabetic type 1, you may tell me how I ought to behave.
I'm actually old enough to be your mom. A little advice never hurt anyone. @Blodyn
But juice is what the doctor recommends. And soda wrecks teeth worse.
Blodyn · 22-25, F
@Spoiledbrat Even old people need to listen to people who actually been there! I know you are doing the best for your little boy. I apologize for my behaviour. I really am sorry. I've been a right cow!

I think it depends on your country and healthcare system - my Dr recommended lucozade and I carry mini Mars bars. @Spoiledbrat
