I'm Short But I Don't Care

But you know what really gets on my nerves? When preteens and teens come up to me and say "hey I'm taller than you, finally". I know they don't mean to offensive, but I already know I'm going to be shorter than them, and find it offensive when they say that. So the kids and preteens out there if you know a short older person and someday you get taller than them don't go up and say hey I'm taller than you, we already know that.

I've dated a couple of short girls and know a bit about short issues. I know everyone thinks it's just about not reaching stuff on high shelves, and people don't realise how unpleasant it is to be at armpit level in a crowd on a warm day, or how many elbows and flailing arms unintentionally hit you, or the things people say without thinking.

One of the girlfriends really liked it when I called her Big Jess, even though it was a comment on her height. She'd just got so sick of people calling her Little Jess all her life.

It’s been like s right of passage for my kids to announce when they’re taller. I’m only 5’2. It didn’t take long lol.

Most of the women in my family are short. I'm lucky I'm 5'6
