I Have Deja Vu

My Mom was rescued from Prague by Dad when she was a child in 1968.

One of the most amazing people on EP is “Yulico” ( <a href="http://www.experienceproject.com/about/yulico" target="ep_blank">EP Link</a> and <a href="http://www.experienceproject.com/stories/Want-To-Interview-You-ba" target="ep_blank">EP Link</a><x>sed-On-Your-Ep-Profile/3958973 ) and she needs our support. She is a 15 year old young woman away from her family at a boarding school in Ukraine. Some of you know her and love her as I do and others of you may never have heard of her, but she is one of the most impressive women here. She is intelligent, opinionated, patriotic and alone in a country that has just been invaded by the Russian Federation.

I have temporarily changed my profile picture to the Ukrainian flag in support of our friend. I am asking you, if you feel comfortable doing so, to do the same for just a day or two. Here’s the plan…

1) Go to Google.

2) Search Ukraine Flag from the Images tab

3) Pick one & save it on your computer

4) Come back to EP and make this flag your profile pic

5) Lastly and most importantly, Go to Yulico’s profile and poke her on her white board

6) Leave your flag up for a day

That’s all. Nothing more. You will make one young lady very happy. I know many of you do not communicate with people under 18 and I understand this. That is why I am only asking for a poke. If this goes well, she will log on tomorrow and see the Ukrainian colors flying all over her notifications and white board and she will feel the love and support of the EP community.

If you are not comfortable doing this, that's fine. This is nothing more than desire of mine to support a friend going through a stressful time. But if this does motivate you, let’s send Yulico some solidarity!

There are horrific atrocities that people are undergoing there between the Russian separatists and the native Ukrainian. But the tension dates back still to WW2 and there has been so much pent up hatred between rival factions that there i no simple solution. Many innocent civilians are of course bearing the brunt of the tragedy.

The soldiers we see on the evening news are wearing brand new uniforms and holding well maintained weapons that look new. The soldiers are well nourished and healthy looking. They might have some guys that cross the border looking for a fight but most of them are full time soldiers. They had to get those multiple rocket launchers and anti aircraft guns and artillery pieces somewhere I was in the American Army so maybe I am looking at it from a different perspective. But it takes a lot of organization, teamwork and training to launch missiles, drive tanks and assault towns.

Thank you Claudianovotny! And thank you to all of you who made the gesture. In two months since this posting, my country in even bigger trouble, I believe now beyond almost hope of survival.
