I Love Romance

If using drugs is bad, because it gives you a false sense of satisfaction and it causes you to interpret certain things differently; to your pleasure, when compared with other people... Then...
Isn't Love the same?
Love makes you put the benefits of your efforts towards another besides yourself. I contend this is quite similar, almost exactly so, to drug addiction. Many times people love the other person, even though it causes them significant harm. Some people commit suicide when things don't go well and they are forced to go through "withdrawal" from that love.

People spend their money on their romantic partner. It is used to "make life better" for the both of you. However, that is often the exact reason/excuse made by drug users. "I use to make life better..."

Why is it that we condemn one, even imprison people for it? When the other, and quite similar goal is treated EXACTLY the opposite. Attainment of "control" of the addiction of love. By control, it means that both people "behave" correctly and along the lines of what is commonly considered acceptable when in that position.
If someone is a lifelong alcoholic, but manages to still be financially successful; they are usually looked down upon for their addiction. They find ways to hide it, like drinking hard alcohol out of coffee mugs and similar methods of being secretive. It's understood to be a bad thing, so people are ashamed of it and keep it hidden.

Yet the control of the alternative is considered a great success, and one to be coveted by all.

I'm not saying that love is bad... I'm more trying to say that we should stop putting labels on the things we love, and creating rules to govern people based on misconceptions and other silliness.

not the same at all. Love can have a negative effect when it goes wrong, but drug addiction almost always affects life negatively and health as well.

Note: I don't really consider marijuana or alcohol a drug.

Did you notice how you wrote "love can have a negative effect when it goes wrong..." And "drug addiction ALMOST ALWAYS affects life negatively..."
I contend you don't notice the drug addicts that are holding things together. I had people talk down to me about pot smokers while I was high as a kite in front of them, solving their problems, on heroin.
It's all about perception...

@Tvxhed: I laugh at people who consider pot a drug. I guess Tobacco is a drug too?!?.......Very few can do that though. The vast majority of heroin addicts are strung out and even if one manages to be unscathed now, it's going to have a negative effect later in life.

I don't do drugs never have. Only tried pot once or twice. Never smoked cigarettes or anything, but I don't judge even the most stung out crackhead. I believe in love and let live. At the same time, I'm also not going to advocate heroine or hard drugs like it.

@VioletRayne: everything is a drug. We just put things into different columns, partly because of culture and ignorance.
If you breathe too much air, you'll pass out. If you drink too much water, you'll die. Etc. etc. Everything must be taken in moderation. Nicotine is a drug, it's just usually imbibed in very small quantities, so it's not understood as one.
"Drug" somehow became synonymous with "psychoactive" when the chemical was not sold by a pharmaceutical company. This was just more misapplication of labels, in an inadequate attempt to understand a complicated situation.

Also your assumption about "the vast majority of heroin addicts..." Is incorrect. The 'vast majority' of heroin addicts (or other opiates) are not people you would ever even GUESS had a problem. Many of them are wealthy people with wall-safes and they run huge businesses and affect the global economy with their decisions.

@Tvxhed: I know that. Doesn't mean they don't have a problem. The biggest feins are middle aged upper middle class white women. People just don't consider that an issue because it's doctors and pharmacists doing the drug dealing. So, it's considered acceptable. I really feel like no drug dealers or users should be prosecuted. Itd save a lot of money and resources.
