I believe the bikini was invented in the early 1950s, and named after the island the US detonated a hydrogen bomb on, because that was a huge story in the news at the same time the (French, I believe) inventor of the bikini was looking for a name (it is an island, or atoll, in the pacific...)

consider it a good thing that they made it known that they were weird and unreasonable
