Sample 2
My family owned a business which they wanted me to run and expand, so I left my job on Wall St to help them out. Contracts were written to assure there was a business plan and a reasonable compensation plan.
As the second business I was running became very successful, they refused to honor the predesignated compensation plan and refused to let me run both companies as a whole.
They wanted to live quite well without concern for me and my family. Ultimately, we reached an impasse, either you pay me fairly as designed, or I go out on my own.
They refused and I opened my own business. As a show of spite, they reported me to the IRS and sued me (in court). I made it through the IRS audit unscathed and won the court case easily. The only blemish was the attorney’s bills.
Still angered, all they could do was to choose to never speak to me again, including my sister who wasn’t even part of the business.
My mother and sister both died (on separate occasions) without ever speaking to me. I wasn’t even told of their deaths by my father. A vendor told me about my mother’s death by accident two months after it happened. My aunt broke down and told me about my sister’s death three weeks after the funeral.
Such is life.
