The World Cinema Project

Hello again, TeaNTea here, giving you more of a taste of the fine stuff in motion pictures. This post will chronicle my going through of the 18 WCP titles in the 3 volumes currently out from CRITERION, maybe a 4th will come later this year, i read somwhere that a total of 50 is planned. Each Blu-ray disc has 2 films and always 2 supplements for each, a Martin Scorsese Introduction, and an interview or short documentary.

WANDERLUST FILM STYLE ๐Ÿ˜Œ

1/18 - TOUKI BOUKI - ahhh what a cute name for a movie, like one of my pet names for family members, from Senegal, a lovers on the run type of picture. Vibrant color photography. Starts off with some strong and upsetting slaughterhouse footage, which is a directorial indication of rage, there's also a freewheeling vibe with this too, inspired by the French New Wave, you hear constantly Josephine Baker singing Paris, Paris, Paris on the soundtrack. Definitely a highlight of the 18.

2/18 - REDES - an early sound era Mexican piece that is like Italian Neo-realism but predates it by around a decade. I sure hope i like it more the 2nd time around.
