Of the 3 Studio Canal box sets for great auteurs, Jean Pierre Melville stands out as what i want most, i have only 3 by him on DVD this one here collects 6 on stunning Blu-ray and from what i understand lots of supplements. The other 2 i'll need to pick up is the ones for Bunuel and Godard. I feel by investing in these, strange fate will then cause some prestigous company to release a more comprehensive set for them, thus ensuring i double dip, and count as more than just one regular customer, for these dire times for physical media.
Melville is one hell of a director, he gives the crime drama a pristine austere attention, his style is evocative of what perfect filmmaking is like, like a fine wine, something to sip, and savour. This set is due to arrive between late June to early July.
