5. The Holy Mountain - Alejandro Jodorwsky - 1973 - 113 minutes

This seems to be a perfect follow up to the silly Russ Meyer flick earlier, this is real cinematic art, and Alejandro's most sacrilegious picture. I love the soundtrack, sometimes i wish it wasn't in english, but then, the subtitles would distract from the visuals, and it's a real visual feast this thing. George Harrison was gonna play the Christ like figure, but he backed out of it because it called for some footage Mr. Sweet Lord guy wasn't comfortable with.

The ending is gimmicky though, anyone who makes a big deal about the ending here in The Holy Mountain is in my humble opinion reading too much into the mise en scene, or perhaps not enough, maybe it called for something more! For me, it's just a wacky out there thing, like El Topo, but without the deserts, i don't like deserts in film too much .....:)

The plot might be weird but The Holy Mountain is a work of art.
