In a way I agree with this quote. God or whomever you believe in as a higher order in any religion does not have the power to make you happy, sad or any other emotion. Religion itself is a means of making one whole. Embracing suffering and pain is often a road to wholeness. This road is traveled by you and you alone most of the time.

No, I don't believe you need any religion at all. You will still live and have every life experience without religion. I think it helps some to have beliefs, ways to cope, meditate, etc., but it is not needed to live a happy productive full life.

@WritersRemorse: Same here really. I've kind of always thought that some people need a religion and some people just don't.
