Horrible Boss

Everyone has a crap boss in their life.
I actually have a spreadsheet of all my bosses I have ever had with a score out of 10. The average score is 4.6. What is your horrible boss story? Or are you a self proclaimed horrible boss yourself?
Ive only had one horrible boss. She was nasty and I changed jobs after a couple of years. In my two different career paths I was mainly a boss but I always had someone higher up & got on fine with them.

@Cutiepi23 it's actually a rare instance to have a job your like and are good at. Nothing to be smug about at all.
@Laughman Thank you 😊

@Cutiepi23 👌👍
My only boss was supposed to be temporary... but she went out of her way to make my job a misery. Nothing I did was ever right for her - even when I had to deviate from protocol for medical reasons.

My last day there, she had a go at me because I wouldn't use a vacuum cleaner that had been stored under a boiler that had flooded the staff area at the back of the shop.

I was pregnant at the time and I wasn't prepared to risk myself or my child to clean the floor for them. I never went back after that argument because they couldn't give me a different boss and I couldn't work with her anymore.

If I knew then that the stress would force me to miscarry, I'd have done the damn floor for them.

@HootyTheNightOwl that's horrible mate. Did you think about getting some legal advice?
@Laughman No... at the time, I hadn't been working for long enough to properly understand my rights, so I didn't know that I could refuse to do elements of my job that were unsafe for me to do.

@HootyTheNightOwl maybe it's not too late to look into it. I'm sorry you went through all that.

I have several, one of them was highly abusive( verbally and he violated the HR laws of the state of California too). I was new to the workforce and I didn’t know any better till I did. I ditched the job and moved on to another when he needed me the most. The cycle didn’t stop there. A year later I got another who had no idea what she was doing and blamed the workers for her own mistakes. Typical, isn’t it? After that I had a few more mafia managers till I said it’s enough. I work for myself now. I don’t have to deal with any customer or managerial bs. My product goes to a larger organization and I only deal with bright minds who can do their job, not just talk and blame.

@SW-User well done! Anyone who goes off on their own venture has balls in my book. You have balls.

Thanks buddy, called it a day in 2019 July after I turned 30. I didn’t want my work life in my 30s to be miserable because of some knucklehead manager. My teens and 20s have had seen enough of it. I also make sure I treat my coworkers with respect and kindness. @Laughman

I no longer work there, but a friend who stayed was promoted to general manager, then they demoted him to team shift and proceeded to give him one day a week. He put up with that shit for about a month and quit. He’d been there like 4 years. That was a shitty thing of Dairy Queen to do to him. I said it then every day and I’ll say it now. Fuck Dairy Queen.
MrAboo · 36-40, M
I’ll guarantee no one they hire in his replacement will give the 2 shits he did.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@MrAboo they have to learn the hard way...
MrAboo · 36-40, M
@Laughman their way problem not mine. I’ll never go to Dairy Queen again at least not in my town.

I only had one horrible boss so far. I told him to stick the job up his arse, walked out and found another, much better one straight away.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@DontLikeMondays wow.. excellent leadership there......
DontLikeMondays · 51-55, M
@Laughman I left him stranded, he had a thin chance of getting the job done in time with me there, no chance without me 🤣
Laughman · 46-50, M
@DontLikeMondays serve that revenge up icy cold!

Had a boss that expected favors to keep my job.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@SW-User ah bloody hell! Well glad you got out of there then. Maybe send your replacement a warning about his behaviour.

@Laughman basically yes
Laughman · 46-50, M
I would say my crappy bosses just have arrogance about them, don't listen to ideas, have no idea how to manage staff etc
