I need to start giving less of a shit what people think of me. If I have to put on a facade just to earn people's respect, then their "respect" clearly isn't worth all that much anyway. But it's so much easier said then done.
The only people who can hurt you are people you care about and whose opinion you respect. This for most people is a very small circle of people, family and friends.
