Now, I have heard a lot of “it’s never too late”s, but isn't that a privilege in itself?

Those are some vague questions. So, lets see some context.. I am going to be 30 next year, have lived in a 15 kms radius all my life, single, spend most of my time doing corporate slavery, and am an avid reader. Give me anything magic and I am hooked. Never grew out of the Harry Potter phase I guess. None of that sounds particularly sad or in need of reinventing does it?

There is more.. I am from a third world country, aka developing country. We spend our childhoods in financially challenged homes and it's drilled into us that it's of utmost importance to get educated and get a job. Land on your feet so you can take responsibility for the said home. So my aim from middle school was to get good grades, good college and get a well paid, stable job. I never actually thought what it is that I want? Even now, I am not sure. I do have a job, but, a well paid job has to be put in a lot of effort even after you get one. Keep on updating yourself, in a world where the technology is evolving way faster than your brain’s ability to keep up. So that’s something I need to work on, obviously.

Now to what I want? I want to see, experience all the worlds that I read about, the history, the culture, to study in classrooms of old beautiful universities, to live on my own, meet new people. Virtual lives are not fun, and the pandemic has put that into perspective for me. In fact all the smothered dreams returned with a vengeance during the lock-down. The easiest way to go about achieving everything aforementioned is to go to a school abroad. And, that’s neither affordable nor “advisable”.

So what should I do? Kill ‘em dreams and make peace with reality and live the cards life dealt me with? Or take an exorbitant leap of faith?

Plan something that really excites you. Where do you most want to go? If you don’t have people depending on you changes can be a lot easier.

@monte3 Thats the caveat, I dont have people depending on me per se, but I do help out.. Alot.

And I really really really want to go to Edinburgh.

@Bbgv14 Well, sometimes you have to put yourself first and look out for number one. In order to achieve anything you have to conceive of the idea and believe in it first.

Go for your dreams, even if you don't get what you want , you'll have more than you had before. And listen to motivational speakers, they can be useful.

@Bbgv14 Edinburgh is great! All of Scotland is, go to Skye also.
Personal needs v responsibility is a tough call.

@monte3 Exactly!
Oh yes! Isle of Skye is on my list, I love places with history and castles. Lets hope I find my way there soon, to visit if nothing else.
