I Used to Think That Wind Could Blow Me Away
I like these comments, so I thought I'd share an event. One night, I was awakened. There was a storm in the area and this was the time of year when such things happen - lots of violent noise and then the chain saws come out in the morning. Anyway, I wasn't sleeping so I went out for a walk. I went to a field nearby, which is largely open. The wind was sending things flying, pieces of tree and somebody's lawn chairs were in the middle of the street. I was enjoying the activity, but when the wind started getting serious, I figured I should get back because the rain wouldn't be too far away. Also, pieces of roofing were starting to come off. Then I noticed something tumbling toward me. It looked like a piece of cloth, very unusual being outside. I grabbed it as it blew and it turned out to be a lady's dress - a formal; a really big skirt. I figured some girl would want this back so I started trying to wrap it up. But the wind was doing its own thing. I was trying to roll up this skirt and keep my balance. I'd get it rolled some and pull my arm away. The material is shiny smooth and as soon as I let go, the wind would pull the skirt loose again. I finally turned my back and managed to get it rolled up. I headed back but now there was a new problem. The back door opens into the wind. So I had to hold this big skirt with one arm and shove the door open, while debris is flying at me. Just before he skirt was blown loose I managed to get it inside. Now I have this skirt and need to find out who it belongs to. Then it occurred to me that this is also the time of year for school parties and proms. So I guess some girl at an after-prom party must have traded formal for glad rags. I don't know how her clothes got outside. No doubt drinking was also involved.
