If you're not from the usa,

Tell me about your culture.

馃敼People like to repair things instead of throwing them out and buying new ones.
馃敼There's actually still a big number of people growing their own vegetables and fruit trees in their gardens. Some keep their own chickens, ducks or even pigs as well.
馃敼Those living in a flat in a city sometimes buy a piece of land where they go to work or relax during weekends. Yes, garden work is a way to relax for many here and you have your own fruits and vegetables as reward.
馃敼Since we have many woods, castles, caves and national parks, people tend to hike a lot as a way to relax or sport activity.
馃敼People still prefer to own a property instead of renting. Many people actually inherit a property from their ancestors.
馃敼Most people live either in an inherited house or an ugly "khrushchyovka".
馃敼It's a national sport to argue about politics, cursing the government, being ashamed of our nationality and preparing for emigration to a better country.
馃敼Especially young people from well educated families are strongly encouraged to study abroad and try to start a new life there.
It's a popular opinion that you can't grow if you stay at the same place all your life and you should try to live abroad at least for some time.
馃敼People quite often rely on financial support from state - healthcare, support in unemployment, parental leave...
馃敼Political Correctness is not popular here. People don't tend to treat each other with kid gloves.
馃敼Most people are completely unaware of the issues related to racism as it's known in the USA because our history is different and it's still not that common to see people of other races outside bigger cities.
馃敼You can often come across close-minded attitude here. Especially when you meet people raised in villages heavily influenced by conservative opinions of Christian church or pro-soviet old people.
馃敼Religion in cities is not as prevalent as it used to be but you still see many people dressing up and going to the church every Sunday.
馃敼I think majority of families stick to old traditions when it comes to feasts like Easter or Christmas. People living in villages are the most proud of these traditions and most eager to preserve them. They still own traditional dresses and wear them during these feasts.
馃敼Particularly eastern parts are well known for heavy drinking and wild, "peasant-style" parties.

Australians are kind of 'laid back' we would say. We're not intense. I can spot Australians at an airport by their face. They look relaxed, like they're on vacation. Sometimes they're kiwis, who are similar.

Our humour, like the Brits and Irish, has a lot of irony. We often say the opposite of what we mean, or something ridiculous, and we all get it. Sometimes I forget and say something stupid to someone from overseas, and they say, 'Really?' Umm... no!

Carl Barron, a comedian, sums it up pretty well.

Carl Barron: I reckon the Australian language is a nationally smart-ass language. You ask someone how they are in Australia, they don't tell you how they are, they tell you how they're not, and you gotta guess the rest.
G'day mate how are ya goin'? Not bad.
What have you been up to? Not much
How much was that? Oh wasn't cheap
Where is this place? Oh it's not far
When are we going? Not long now.

@Abstraction Lol. You sound like a bunch of non committal people. Say it like like it is bro ! 馃檪
Abstraction61-69, M
@Wraithorn Not true - that's culture gap. When you ask an American how she is, she might say, 'Great!'
When you ask an Australian and they say, 'not bad' - we hear it differently to you. It's the same as the American 'great'.
@Abstraction Maybe they're just high all the time -- like koalas!! 馃槀

I'm from Canada. It's rather similar to the culture of the US, except less guns, and more weed.

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays Personally, I think someone like this would be a better fit. Handsome, AND an insightful mind, far better at speaking to the Canadian people...

I don't really have one other than being non conformist. I'm an English speaking South African with ancestors from Italy, England and Scotland.
I like Italian food, British comedy and I know the Scot's national animal is the Unicorn. I have little respect for any of S.Africa's 10 kings and I reject all religion. I do love the fauna and flora of my country though. They rock. 馃檪
