🔹People like to repair things instead of throwing them out and buying new ones.
🔹There's actually still a big number of people growing their own vegetables and fruit trees in their gardens. Some keep their own chickens, ducks or even pigs as well.
🔹Those living in a flat in a city sometimes buy a piece of land where they go to work or relax during weekends. Yes, garden work is a way to relax for many here and you have your own fruits and vegetables as reward.
🔹Since we have many woods, castles, caves and national parks, people tend to hike a lot as a way to relax or sport activity.
🔹People still prefer to own a property instead of renting. Many people actually inherit a property from their ancestors.
🔹Most people live either in an inherited house or an ugly "khrushchyovka".
🔹It's a national sport to argue about politics, cursing the government, being ashamed of our nationality and preparing for emigration to a better country.
🔹Especially young people from well educated families are strongly encouraged to study abroad and try to start a new life there.
It's a popular opinion that you can't grow if you stay at the same place all your life and you should try to live abroad at least for some time.
🔹People quite often rely on financial support from state - healthcare, support in unemployment, parental leave...
🔹Political Correctness is not popular here. People don't tend to treat each other with kid gloves.
🔹Most people are completely unaware of the issues related to racism as it's known in the USA because our history is different and it's still not that common to see people of other races outside bigger cities.
🔹You can often come across close-minded attitude here. Especially when you meet people raised in villages heavily influenced by conservative opinions of Christian church or pro-soviet old people.
🔹Religion in cities is not as prevalent as it used to be but you still see many people dressing up and going to the church every Sunday.
🔹I think majority of families stick to old traditions when it comes to feasts like Easter or Christmas. People living in villages are the most proud of these traditions and most eager to preserve them. They still own traditional dresses and wear them during these feasts.
🔹Particularly eastern parts are well known for heavy drinking and wild, "peasant-style" parties.
