Not that it means a lot today, imho, cause many Universities etc are just place where you learn to do a job like in the past you would have learned it at the blacksmith shop. Today I see way too many people with a high level of degree but with a very poor and shameful culture.
Like people who attended some kind of Universities...
I personally met many people like this, and I have them in my friend circle (I still love them, but they're just ignorant I can't help it LOL).
People representatives of a high professional status gained thanks to studies (???) but with a almost nonexistent cultural level. When I talk with them of some topics, sometimes I think about talking of the same with my grandparents which have only attended the primary school and they are way more educated... Lot more.

Maybe it's also about the fact my grandparents are really aware of what having a culture means, and they've read a lot, went to theatre, and explored a lot in life, while my friend (Yeah I'm talking about you "C") did't open a single book or newspaper since he attended his degree more than 10 years ago...

It's weird cause it makes me think about the actual level of our Universities... And I also know very educated people that studied in the same places, so, it's just weird. Maybe I should blame previous school levels, but how these people attended the Uni exams?

LOL sorry about this, I supposed to open just a poll, cuz after all I'm curious about Education, as well as I like to ask about other things I find interesting.
So, here we go. 📚
I never tell people what my level of education is or what it's in. I think that is better.

I used to deny it, saying I had no formal education, and there was a way I'd be dealt with. Same with telling people the truth. Certain a way there too.

I find the question off-putting. Really just behind "what do you do?" I do a lot of things, and I educate myself in a lot of ways and contexts.
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@CopperCicada Mh, I understand it cause from a certain point I even agree with it. But in most cases (maybe not your), today, it's just to deny something you don't agree with, without a real reason, when people educated on that topic are trying to make you understand. I repeat, I'm not talking about you, it's just an example.
Like, now, in my country there are a wave of no-vax and pro homeopaty people. They just don't want to face their own ignorance, ok, if it's ok for them, but not when their claiming becomes something that must hurt others (for example the no-vax thing).

I agree with you especially on the "what do you do?" mostly cause it's a question that puts people under a label. What do you do is not Who you are, surely.
Maybe I work 8hours a day as a cashier at walmart or something, but it doesn't mean that at home I spend my real energies and heart to play the piano or to raise my kids or something else. I get it.

BUT, I'm still interested about what-you-do, and what-did-you-study cause some times is related to your interests etc. I'm a curious person and I won't stop asking things. :-P

I've got the example of myself but also other people that surprised me, or also friends who where both that lucky and stubborn to really follow their own self even in work life.
@Sharky86 sure. but i can attack various types of nonsense without revealing my level of education unless it helps in some way.

i also get asking and wondering about people. if somebody asks me directly i'll generally oblige. that's just courtesy.
I have a trade which in Canada means you work with your hands at a skilled job.

Mechanic
Machinist

Things of that sort.

I got lucky and knew the right people.

Now I'm working a laid back job living very comfortably.

Hurray for college.
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@Teggy Yeah, everyone's different, but the best is finding what's right for you and makes you feel comfortable with yourself while also being able to afford a decent life.
Go Teggy! XD We also have seen some pics of you behind your desk at the "factory" I suppose.
@Sharky86 lol yeah. I'm working as a machinist in the aerospace industry so I cannot complain. 😎

@celine211 C'mon! At worst you can drink over it and have fun.
celine211 · 22-25, F
@Sharky86 yeah and study for the resits in september
silentwriter180 · 51-55, F
The highest school I went to was high school, but I took a few writing classes and seminars. Separate from any college.
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@silentwriter180 Sometimes you earn a lot more from seminaries etc cause you attend them with more passion and interest than doing that just cause you should.
I love to attend seminars, workshops and courses too, in the recent years I've put all of my "holiday budget" money in things like these, and I'm always looking to start a new one. Now I'm even good at find cheap or almost free ones (of course the quality is the main thing).

Interesting results of your poll.
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@monte3 Idk, do you think so? Mmmmhhhh... Because of a small social stigma reason or something?
monte3 · 70-79, M
Yes essentially. I agree on the death of culture by the way. Can I ask where you are from?
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@monte3 Italy! I've always seen a big gap between culture and ignorance here, but now we have a populist government since a couple of weeks, so ignorance is free to come out of the closet! it seems you can insult a Doctor if he tells you that you have some disease you don't like to have, we also have parents beating the teachers outside schools cause the son had a bad grade etc. Really, we have MINISTERS doing this kind of things now.
Oh, we also had a teacher who's just been fired (thanks to the new government) cause she was protesting against violence... We're going to have bad times.

But it wasn't related to my question LOL, I put politics everywhere recently sorry. XD

Ok, I was saying that there's very different shit even in the same 'supposed to be cultural' place. Like when I was at the University I met some good teachers and lecturers but I also felt frustrated meeting people very ignorant in what was supposed to be their field. I just dropped their lesson and went for another teacher, but it affected my Uni years and today I don't care anymore and I don't believe in the educational system.
I had friends more intelligent or just more smart or something than me who where able to
float on this stream facing and avoiding problems and some of my closest friends are now teaching at those same Universities and I'm kinda glad for their students...

HS. I don’t think I need a college degree or whatever. I’ve always had a job and that’s all that matters
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@MURD3RM0NK3Y LOL everyone is different I suppose.
I’m still in college but I’m planning on going to law school so that’s the highest I’ll go I think
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@Insomniac100 Useful for a potential future career.
SW-User
what you call high school because we in those shithole countries call it intermediate
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@SW-User Yeah different country different system. In my country we don't have College or A-level (it means Advanced I suppose? Advanced what? Such a generic term) we call it something like high school, but there are some difference even between high schools, the more work oriented are just high schools, the one that prepares you with a deeper knowledge, and that generally are a natural step before the University are the Lyceums.
Also we do different years of primary-secondary school compared to other places.
