Ulysses S. Grant

@DunningKruger being from Ohio a state that never allowed slavery but had some the worse black code laws that left freemen in a worse state than slavery in most cases. I figured he had to inherit the slaves it they belonged to his wife who was southern.

@DunningKruger And as I learned the story, Grant wasn't by any means on easy street at that point. Though I'd imagine he was more financially stable than William. I believe Grant's wife may also have had a slave or two - quite likely also obtained from the FIL.

@hlpflwthat Grant's wife claimed that there were four servants who belonged to her, but there's every indication they actually belonged to her father.

Shhhh.... A little secret? Most presidents owned slaves or had money tied to slavery before it was outlawed

Yes. We humans have a pretty illustrious history of treating each other like shit. SLavery has been practiced in most every nook of the world, and is all too alive-and-well today ... just not so out in the open.

@hlpflwthat got that right

The tu quoque logical fallacy is an appeal to hypocrisy. Speaker A claims that it's wrong to use animals for food and clothing. Speaker B tries to claim that Speaker A's argument is invalid because he was wearing a leather jacket and ate a ham sandwich for lunch. Speaker B is trying to invalidate Speaker A's argument because his actions aren't consistent with his statements. However, Speaker A's inconsistent behavior in no way invalidates his statement. Speaker B is attempting to use the tu quoque logical fallacy.

@Mountainlady16 the civil war by ken burns doesnt come right out and say it but sherman was an achilles drunk madman.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@lakergoy I believe that Sherman along with several other officers on both sides would stood up on war crimes charges had the civil war been fought 100 years later
