I Ve Had a Recurring Dream

When I was a child, I had a dream almost every night where it would be like a camera moving closer and closer to an open coffin, sitting on a pedestal in a dark, empty church. As it got closer the angle would get higher and higher, but I would always force myself awake before I could see in the coffin, because I knew it was my dead body in there, and that if I ever looked I would die.

@monte3 Well, I was absolutely terrified of death as a child. I was raised in a semi-religious house where I was taught God was real but not much else. So I was just sure that I had misbehaved too much and was doomed to a fiery hell when I died.

Yeah, I remember the bedtime pray, especially the “if I die before I wake I pray the Lord my soul to take”. That is frightening!@pjeffries85

@monte3 Yeah my parents made me do that prayer, because it was the only prayer they knew. I never understood what it meant other than that I might just randomly die in my sleep with no warning.

@monte3 Yeah, but it's definitely confusing. Praying to keep your soul, but if you die to take your soul. Does he have it or not? What happens if he chooses not to keep it? These questions haunted me.
