If a friend tells you they need space, how long should be appropriate?

In this case she never said anything until days later. I gave her 2 to 3 days but it seems like that's still not enough. I've had friends before that dont require space. Hell, I know people who have friends that they communicate everyday and have done so for years on end. Why is it so much harder now?

In my experience it usually means forever. Never contact them again.

@SwampFlower I struggle with that. Sometimes she keep awaiting me for 6 months. She recently started contacting me again. But again I sense she will do the same so I am not going to write her for few days
