So why does Trump REALLY want to ban TikTok?

Poll - Total Votes: 22
He is genuinely concerned that it is a tremendous threat to national security.
Because Sarah Cooper made fun of him
He's furious that TikTok users disrupted his rally in Tulsa
It's Chinese. What more reason do I need?
This is just Trump's deflection 'du jour' a la Obamagate, etc.

The US military banned the use of Tik Tok on government phones back in December of 2019 after BIPARTISAN calls from Congress.
Sens. Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, and Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, called on the US intelligence community to assess TikTok's national security risks in October, saying the app could be used to spy on US citizens. Other lawmakers, including Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, have raised concerns that TikTok has censored Hong Kong-related content.
Looks like he’s not the only one who wants it banned.

@DukeOfEarle In that regards I think a Microsoft acquisition would benefit all the parties involved (except the Chinese). You can easily disable (or reroute, since they're evil) the data collection once you have the sourcecode, TikTokers won't have the service interrupted, Microsoft will finally have an app in the mobile market with a large userbase, and we have some healthy competition against Facebook's near-monopoly on social media.

@Elessar Hmm, well let's see. If Microsoft or some other American company assume control of TikTok will Trump still want to ban it? If he does, then clearly his motivations were non-security related... ;)

@SW-User Right, we'd have this assessment tool as well. Well, even if he halts the acquisition I suppose.

@Elessar I think, at the bottom of it, he wants to ban TikTok because Sarah Cooper made fun of him. We know he's been motivated by less perceived slurs against him.
