The hardest thing to tame is not the wild beasts, but the creative mind. At least for me. Though I found ways around my wondering ADHD mind to some degree. I'm not the type that can't do anything from start to finish without getting side tracked with the way my mind functions. Instead of fighting to reign in my thought process of one thing at a time, I let my mind take the lead.
I do keep writing though if my mind jumps somewhere else when writing, I open a new tab and write the idea down while it's still fresh. Just the rough draft of it, even if it doesn't seem to fit anywhere yet. Then I go return back to the oringal piece I was working on which allows the flow to carry over back to what I was first working on.
I find it useful to piece the second tab or however many I happen to have opened up, into the story where it fits later on if my mind jumped way too far ahead in the story line.
If it doesn't fit with what I am working on currently and something completely new, I save it and can use the rough ideas for a continuance or a new series after the first one is done.
Also when I get writers block on what I'm currently working on I open the rough ideas tabs back open which usually gets me free writing. Once I can free write again I jump back to what I was originally working on and get more done.

Don't feel bad, you're not the only one with that problem. I'm working on two, and am a bit frustrated with both of them. lol

@silentwriter180 glad I'm not the only one lol, it does get a tad frustrating knowing I get side tracked so often 😂

@Jwolf90 Just don't think too hard, I wouldn't want you hurting yourself. 😜

I get the Writers Digest magazine. They has an article on just this problem. It IS a common problem for beginner writers.

You are more in love with your own ideas than the hard, slogging work of completing a manuscript.
