There's a big push by governments to try and stop people using cash during the covid-19 situation. Cash is king as *you* control *your* spending in ways the governments, banks, and businesses hate because they cannot track your last-mile spending habits.
Cash works when electronic payment systems do not. Cash is *real money* and is the closest thing you can get in the modern economic system to barter trading without bartering and bypassing the economy completely.
Cash is legal tender here in Australia and it is illegal for any business to refuse to accept payment for goods and services in cash.
Remember that banks and governments make their money from *flows* of money. Cash interupts those flows and removes the ability of those organisations to *automatically* create profit from money flows.
I discovered a local food shop yesterday that only accepts cash! In my local area too! I was really happy to discover they are refusing to have electronic payment systems in their store and make it very clear with lots of signage that only cash is accepted.
cash is my only method of commerce … i refuse to use cc. as for the merchants … here, in usa, it's not illegal to refuse cash … fortunately, vast majority still allow cash.
