My Toxic Family Sucks
I don't speak to my mother, father, aunts, uncles, or cousins. No one. Just one of my brothers. He is the one I had to raise since my mom was always gone. We have always had each other's back because we had no one else to depend on from our early childhoods.
When I was sick and unable to work from several chronic illnesses, he bought me a modestly priced used car that I still drive to this day. And now that he has fallen on hard times (employed but there is no work right now in his field), I am helping him as much as I can. I sent him $200 for Christmas, and I just paid his phone bill so he could have his phone in case work calls him.
People who have supportive, generous families always have a "head start" in life, whether they realize it or not. The rest of us have to make our own way through life without a guide or a safety net.
