I Love Iguanas

I used to have a pet iguana when I was a kid. A green iguana that was actually my sister's, she got him for her sixth birthday. She named him Winston and he was the pet we had for the longest time, about 10 years! Winston spent most of his time in his tank but we got a little tree branch for him he could use to climb out whenever he wanted to. We would let him walk around the house like a dog, luckily he would never cause any trouble.

Except for one time when we had a cat for a little while. She tried taking him on one time but he whipped her real good with his tail and even snarled and hissed at her! After that, she never messed with him again. Whenever she would see Winston coming, she would take off to get away from him, lol. And another time when he was climbing on top of the curtains and jumped on my poor mom's back!

He really loved my sister. She was the only one he would let carry him around! It got to where she could just extend her arm in front of him and he would just climb up and relax on her shoulders. She really loved him too. She would let him rest on her shoulder all day and show him off to her friends whenever she could. Sometimes she would be a weirdo and feed him by transferring lettuce from her mouth to his, kissing him on the nose when he would eat it. How romantic, lol. That's probably why he loved her so much.

Sadly, Winston eventually got old and died. We buried him in our backyard where we still have the grave for him set up today. At least he lived a full life. I think he was about a year old when we got him and they live for about 10-12 years. Apparently most iguanas don't last long in captivity due to them being a high maintenance pet but I guess we took proper care of ours because he was around for a long time!

During the years we had Winston, my sister and I considered getting him a little girlfriend so they could mate and we could have more iguanas but our parents said no. I kinda wish we were able to though, so we could have more iguanas that would probably still be around today.

Wow cool. I'm not sure I'd like a reptile for a pet, but awesome experience. Did he seem to "like" you the way or dog or cat would??

@sarabee1995: I'm not sure what you mean by "like".

@Carver: Well, the only pets I ever had were two dogs and they're was no doubt in the world that they loved me. When I got home from school (or anywhere) they would be so excited to see me.

So, does an iguana show any emotion like that?

@sarabee1995: Oh, I see. Well, not really. 😅
I always wanted an iguana growing up 😕

My friend had one and when we'd be at his house smoking weed, it would whip our ankles if we didn't blow it shotguns 😂

Iguanas are great pets. We had to surgery on one a few weeks ago at work and she died :(. But they are cool.
