school teachers are THE ONLY profession for which a line in the regular 1040 tax form reads.
"How much of your personal income was spent on school supplies" so they can at least factor it in.
they know schools need more funding, they know teacher do s from love,.

how about this. we LEAVE Iraq, and afganistan, and split that funding with all the schools
@Amylynne Yes but I would caution you that things don't work here in Oregon like they do elsewhere. Oregon is A Blue as fuck state and the Public employee unions tend to win and have historically over and over and over..

@BetweenKittensandRiots Oregon is a red state with a blue stripe, my family has property in the east there. ranch land.
Blue and red are artificial constructs that are keeping us apart
Greater Idaho? I don't think so
@Amylynne The Red parts of the state are immaterial because most of the people live in the blue parts and while the red screeeches on and on social media they have no real voice in the political process because they're outvoted. the reason they get noisy on Social media is because elsewhere they HAVE NO IMPACT and they KNOW they are impotent. it's a blue state which while is polarized as hell and has Red districts the Red districts don't even have enough of a voice to obstruct anything but the most objectionable pieces of legislation. the democrats have a super majority in the legislature.

@BetweenKittensandRiots I believe we need a radical re think on how our democracy works.
we need more parties not just the two that own it all./
proportional representation, ANY minority population, including yours, gets a fair due
@Amylynne I SHARE your opinion. I believe the civilized world uses porportional representation and America is a nation of Savages that just happens to be blessed with all of the money. We are not part of the civilized world because we don't use it. That isn't SOFT agreement, it's Hard.

@BetweenKittensandRiots there is hope in our future
@Amylynne https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/careersandeducation/this-is-how-much-teachers-are-paid-in-oregon/ar-BB1fE6Um

Oregon Teachers are paid better than the National Average which is $65,977 a year.

Oregon's Teachers make $71,317.

While I do think that it's unfair that students supplies come out of their Salary often I just wanted to stress that the teachers have plenty of representation and even those of us who think the state pensions are too high are still convinced the profession is of vital necessity and are grateful for the work our teachers do.
