I Live In Oregon

So there's a separatist group in my state petitioning to expand Oregon's borders to include Idaho and a piece of Northern California (because why not?) to create a "Greater Idaho" state. The group behind the petition are a group of conservatives claiming they are fed up living in a Democratic-majority state so instead of moving to another state, they wish to create a "super-conservative mega-state". 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ Regardless of which side you're on politically, you have to admit that this is unbelievably stupid. As an Oregonian myself, this is straight-up embarrassing! Some states are majority Democrat, some states are majority Republican. That's just how it is! If you hate living in a state that's run by the party you're opposed to so much, you can always just move to another state. Or you can create a petition to move your state's borders to a neighboring state that's who your political alignment is the majority, out of complete disregard for those who would be effected and don't want the change, all so you can be happy! Excuse me, so you can maintain your rural values. For those conservatives who always make fun of liberals for being "snowflakes" all the time: what do you call this? 🙄

Wy would you be embarrassed? They'll never get their wish. There's a similar group in Washington State, or to be exact, there have been multiple groups, in WA-OR-ID that thinks of our corner of the nation, as the last white refuge. They'll never get their wish.
@Northwest I know it’s not going to happen but just the fact that this retardation exists in my state too. 😣

@PerchingDove It may surprise you, but Portland is the whitest major US city out there. Even the areas around MLK Blvd, are basically devoid of minorities. I do love Portland's progressive attitude though, but every once in a while, we're reminded that evil still exists. On Friday, the racist who was killed two people, and nearly killed a third, after they stepped in, to protect a couple of Muslim teenagers from harassment, on a light rail line, was convicted of first degree murder. I hope he spends the rest of his miserable life in jail.

@Northwest Isn’t Oregon still technically a white-only state?
@QuixoticSoul Of course not! Oregon is very diverse. Not the most diverse but still far from being a white-only state. Where did you get that from?

@QuixoticSoul The black exclusion laws, were repealed in the 1920s.

@PerchingDove Oregon had laws, prohibiting blacks from living in the state, going all the way back to when it was a territory, less than 4 decades, after Lewis & Clark first set foot there. They were repealed about 1930.

@PerchingDove It was part of the original state constitution iirc. It was eventually superseded by the national constitution amendments.

But tbh I have not done a lot of research on this.
@Northwest Well that is such ancient news, I can't imagine why anyone would still think that's a thing today.

@PerchingDove That’s basically yesterday lol. But there is a reason why I included “technically” - I know none of that would be enforceable today even if still on the books.

@PerchingDove I agree, it's ancient news, but Oregon today, suffers from a the trickle down effect. I am not saying that Portland is anti-black. The contrary is true, but when you see a sign, on Mississippi Ave, that says "how many black families were displaced, to gentrify this spot?", the answer is none, as there weren't any.
