My yearly rant.

My yearly appeal to all my friends. Memorial day is coming up. Please do NOT wish me a Happy Memorial Day. There is NOTHING happy about this day, neither is it MY day. I am a proud Vietnam [image deleted]Veteran, but I came home safely to my family and loved ones, my day is November 11th, Veterans day. This day is to honor all the proud Americans who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. It is a somber day, not just a long weekend so that you can drink beer and BBQ in your back yard. Maybe set an empty place in honor of a hero who did not come home.

Understand totally. Technically I am a Vietnam Era Veteran, but disabuse everyone of any idea that I am a Vietnam Vet. Fortunate to be stationed in Europe. Memorial Day is for those who made the supreme sacrifice; Veteran's Day is for the rest, and even then it should be for those who actually had to fight.

@dancingtongue Please do not denigrate your service as you went where they sent you. It could have been combat, it could have been counting medical kits in Kansas. You enlisted=you played your part. Do not let anyone tell you different, Brother.
