I Am American Indian

I don't like the term "Indian" for indigenous people of North America. It seems pretty outdated, especially since it's being more properly used to refer to people of Indian descent. I've always preferred to be called Native American or even indigenous. I don't get offended when someone calls me an Indian but I would much rather they didn't.

You are no more "Native American" than the Pilgrims as Native Americans immigrated from Siberia across a land bridge and possibly some of the Native Americans from South America could have come from Asia or Polynesia. So, in a sense the Vikings and other that came across the Ocean could be described as Native Americans also as they were early immigrants just as your predecessors.
@acpguy Well, if we're going to get technical like that then everyone is African since humamity originated in Africa then migrated all over the world.

@PerchingDove That is probably true although they are beginning to question that idea. I would not bet on it either way. I feel that I am at least part Negro as I am part Jewish. Too many people put too much on their heritage with out a thought that we probably are all the same and related so calling one's self Native American is being discriminatory.
@acpguy I don't agree. Just because we all may share the same roots doesn't mean we can't identify with our cultural heritage.

@PerchingDove Then you are a hypocrite as that statement just goes against your previous statement. "Well, if we're going to get technical like that then everyone is African since humamity originated in Africa then migrated all over the world." You are one of the reasons people do not think highly of Native American's education and ability to learn. Discrimination takes on all forms from all cultures and you are one example.
@acpguy It actually doesn't but okay. Your own logic is pretty ridiculous and you're the only one who seems to have a problem with this, that should tell you something. But I'm not going to argue with you anymore As I'm getting a bit of racist undertones from you too. You have a nice day, nonetheless.

@PerchingDove I think you are confused "Your own logic is pretty ridiculous and you're the only one who seems to have a problem with this" You need to look at anthropology and history for answers which concur with what I have stated that Native Americans came from Siberia by way of a land / ice bridge through Alaska and that there is strong evidence that South American indians are descendants of Polynesians or Orientals. So with that thought why would we not think that Vikings / Norsemen that came by ship are just as much "Native American" or the Pilgrims? You should apply logic to this and you and others like the romantic notion that so called Native American Indians are something special while they are no different than migrants or in today's vernacular, illegal aliens. I am not racist as I have many friends that are Black, Indian (from Asia), African and Korean. You and others however that hold on to the notion that American indians are special and deserve special treatment are racist it supports / applies preferential treatment to one culture and that is a culture which was nomadic as much as the original humanoids.
@acpguy I wasn't referring to that, I was referring to you saying me calling myself Native American is discriminatory. Even if you're not a racist, obviously you have some issue with Native Americans but that's your issue. I never said or thought Native Americans as special but I'm not going to stop calling myself a Native American just because you have a problem with it for the most absurd reason. You can call it whatever you want, I'm not dropping my identity just to make you happy.

I wonder if you would apply the same logic to Europeans or Asians or whatever. According to your logic, since their ancestors aren't really native to those continents, they shouldn't identify as European or Asian either right?

@PerchingDove You have too much trouble with reading comprehension to have an intelligent conversation with. You are a racist per your statements, you and others have demonstrated that you think supposed "Native Americans" are deserving of special treatment / designation despite not being actual Natives. I have no problem with you or American Indians I do have a problem with racist people however which you and others have shown.

"Racism: showing or feeling discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or believing that a particular race is superior to another."
If we are all the same then why does some group need to have there original cultural name changed to mean something that is not true and honest? I understand that American Indians are not Asian Indians, however they are not Native Americans as they originate from a nomadic Siberian or Asian group. With this thought they really should be referred to as Nomadic Siberians or Nomadic Northern Asians. People we need to start being honest with our selves and others and stop this liberal bullshit of making things up to appease people.
@acpguy You clearly have some issue here. Look how a big a deal you're making out of this. Outright insulting me and now calling me a racist! And over what, me preferring to be called "Native American" over "American Indian"? Like I said, you can say whatever you want about it but you're not taking my identity from me.
