I Love Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder's "Talking Book" (1972) remains one of the greatest records ever created. "Superstition" is the song everyone knows, but the whole album is a masterpiece.

Years before artists like Lenny Kravitz and Dave Grohl recorded music by playing every instrument, Stevie was doing it. He plays every single note you hear on this song, which moves me every time I hear it.

He was a genius!! That he played all the keys/notes on this song is simply incredible! 🙂

@Vivaci Certain music and certain songs can stir me emotionally, and this is one of them. Years ago, the first time I picked this up on vinyl and really listened to it, it almost knocked the wind out of me.

This was the first song I heard of him I think....I remember watching him play the piano and sing on TV as a kid. I just couldn't believe that he was blind....I thought my mom was joking!

@Vivaci That was around the time I became aware of him as a kid, too. I remember hearing "Master Blaster" off that album on the radio that summer, because it was one of the first raggae style songs I remember hearing. (It was a few years before I'd get the Bob Marley/Peter Tosh epiphany).

This was also around the time I first sought Stevie out as an artist, because there was an episode of "Taxi" that featured "You Are the Sunshine of My Life", which knocked my socks off as a 10 year old.
@SW-User Some artists like him and Elton John have a way with hitting the right keys and singing just as brilliantly.
SW-User
@Vivaci Agreed. Elton John was another one who was just operating at a higher level than just about anyone else. in the early and mid 70's.

Have you ever heard of Long John Baldry? He was a singer and close friend of Elton's. He's the one Elton wrote "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" about, because it was Baldry who visited Elton John on a night when he was completely depressed and morose. It was that all night conversation when Elton came to terms with being gay. That song is about that night and that conversation. Hence, the references to turning into a butterfly and finding the freedom to fly away, etc. Anyway, you might like some of Baldry's music, which was co-produced by Elton and Rod Stewart.

(Talk about hijacking my own post 😆)

@Vivaci Here's a good "start here" song for Baldry.

@SW-User LMAO! Yeah, who hasn't heard about that story!! I think Elton Johns voice is mesmerizing...somewhat haunting in the sense that you get lost and just feel those emotions burst in your every being. He was rightfully chosen to pay tribute to Princess Di. Whats his partner's name?
@SW-User I didn't quite get the song lyrics....but his name Long John reminded me of Robinhoods best friend....🤭
SW-User
@Vivaci Bernie Taupin was his songwriting partner.
@SW-User offo! No, I mean Elton John married his partner a few yrs bk, right? THAT partner ...🤦‍♀️
SW-User
@Vivaci He did, but I don't recall his name. When I think Elton John's partner, it's always Bernie just like I always think of Jim Steinman and Meatloaf as partners.
@SW-User Oh yeah, that's the trend of course.

I only asked coz I find that public figures coming out of the closet, and marrying their partners takes a lot of courage even in today's day and age. I admire Anderson Cooper for the same reason. Just my curious silly self that loves when two lovers are united against all odds....lol
SW-User
@Vivaci I get it. My daughter came out a couple of years ago, and I obviously want nothing but happiness for her with whomever she falls in love with.
@SW-User aww....same here. I mean I wish my son is happily married someday.
