I Have Something to Say

Having dealt with bouts of depression myself this rang true for me, what's your thoughts?

He missed the point as far as genuine, clinical depression goes. That's been around for a lot longer than 50 years. Depression is not just dissatisfaction with life. Plenty of people with all the creature comforts they could ever ask for are depressed. Their cortisol levels, sleep patterns and flat affect tell a different story than that suggested in the video

I agree, but I also see what he's saying in some instances. Having a lot of my sons friends on my facebook it's a parade of depression. Like they're proud of it. So this is just something to consider.

He has no idea what he's talking about.

@crossproduct: I don't think so, why can't some of what he says ring true in some cases? Instead of calling him names just say you disagree... some folks my actually benefit in a positive way to what he said.

All right, I disagree, very strongly. I don't see how anyone could benefit in a positive way from a video entitled "The Truth About Depression" that doesn't understand what depression is. I wish I could take him on a tour of the inside of my head with no meds so he can find out what psychotic depression is really like.

@crossproduct: fair enough.
I mean I guess some of what he's saying makes sense but it doesn't really apply to me directly. I'm not sad about life choices I made, I'm sad about things that I can't even control. Things that unless I put up with the healthcare industry and their bullshit I can't even change. Then on top of that I my personality is just garbage because I don't find reality meaningful and sometimes I'm not sure if it even exists.

Your last sentence kind of goes with him saying depression is ''dissatisfaction with your life'' I felt some truth in that for me at times. This isn't meant to refute depression on the whole, but to give some alternative thought to it. I have many young folks on my facebook that I watched grow up before my eyes and their post do seem to compete with on another on this subject. It's probably why many of them use the ''FML'' ... dissatisfaction. But they identify it as depression because that's what they've been taught.
