I Just Found Out

that apps and websites I visit, and even shop at, are sharing all my activity and purchases with FB. At the very least, I am not happy about this intrusion into my privacy, especially when on some of those sites I use a username, yet somehow they still know who I am. This is NOT right. FB should not be so deep into my personal life. 😡

Yes, Zuckerberg is a liar. I deleted my FB profile over a yr ago because of that crap.

@Carissimi It is disgraceful. They're sort of evolving us using tech into mind controlled comsumers.
Carissimi · 70-79, F
And we know it’s not just advertising, it’s keeping a profile on us. Our purchases. Our politics. Our habits...our exercise...one of the apps that reports to FB is my exercise website. It is outrageous. In this tense political atmosphere with cancel culture threatening all of us for having the “wrong” opinions, it’s too much information in the wrong hands. @Wraithorn

@Carissimi Indeed. Ol' George Orwell must be going nuts rolling around in his grave yelling,"I told you so !"

It can be hard to pinpoint who exactly is selling you out. It could be your browser, google, ISP, web extensions, the websites themselves, your bank, your camera or microphone or even the operating system itself. Regardless, if Facebook has your data, then just about everyone does.
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I know who it is. It’s in my settings. There is a list of businesses, apps, and websites that send my activity with them to FB. I hardly look into my settings, but looked today, and found this list. They say it’s not extensive, and there may be more not listed. It’s outrageous that FB knows what I buy, what comments I leave, and what I look at. It’s none of their business. I feel violated. @SW-User

@Carissimi They don't send your information to Facebook directly. They sell it to third-parties. You can opt out of some of these types of tracking but you will not get rid of all them. Well, actually u can get rid of them, but it's a far bigger inconvenience to evade all the trackers as it makes the internet a not very fun place.
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I buy from a department store, then they send my info about my purchases to FB, then what I bought shows up in ads on FB. I’m not sure I can opt out because when I tried to delete this history, it said FB would still receive this info about my off FB activity whether I deleted it or not. I think FB has a contract with all these businesses. Amazon is one of them. Everything I do on Amazon goes to FB. It’s not right. @SW-User

This has been the case for so many years...ever since we developed the capability to do things online. I think that the inventors of the internet did not think through all the possible implications, before they unleashed it on the world. And now, I don’t think we can put the genie back in the bottle.
@SmartKat 👍️ The book 1984 by George Orwell

Big Brother is watching you.
Today
Big Business is watching you.

I agree. It’s too late. Where this goes from here, I don’t know, but that Chinese social scoring system is on the horizon, and I think is already in use without us knowing. @SmartKat

This has been a thing for more than a decade 😬
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I didn’t know. I’m not a big FB user, and had no idea that other businesses were sharing my info with FB. I’m going to contact some businesses and ask them not to, or lose my custom. @SW-User

@Carissimi are you using a pc?
Carissimi · 70-79, F
No. @SW-User
I deleted my FB when advertising started showing up that I'd only talked about in conversation, and not even viewed online...
@Carissimi I meant if FB were passing that info on to the police...

...but yeah, you're right...being monitored like we are is a legally very shady area, if not an outright illegal thing for FB to do..

...that's why I got rid of it..
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I bet they still keep tabs on you through your friends and family. @Mandalorian
@Carissimi more than likely...that Zuckerberg is evil to the core..
walabby · 61-69, M
Don't have FB running in the background, and browse in "Private Mode".. ?
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I don’t. It’s not browsing. It’s purchasing from a major department store (as one example), and that store reports back to FB on my activity and interaction with them. If that’s not “big brother,” I don’t know what is. FB says even if I delete this feature, the business will still report back to them, I just won’t know it. @walabby

@Carissimi That sux.. :/
I suggest you turn off your mobile phone, except when using it,
and get out of any systems like flybuys because they read your credit card purchases so as to target you for advertising.

Google always wants to know where you are, but it has to ask permission.
Always best to say no.
BananaBrown · 41-45, F
Facebook is garbage 🗑
Carissimi · 70-79, F
It’s big brother. @BananaBrown
