I Have Something to Say

I can foresee another COVID-19 outbreak in September when parents are forced to send their children back to school. With the threat of fines for keeping children off school, it's likely that impoverished parents will send their children to school even if they show symptoms of COVID-19. Overcrowded schools do not have the space to even allow for social distancing, even at just 1 metre, never mind enforcing it. I doubt they'll have the facilities to implement other precautions either. It's a recipe for disaster.

The 2m / any social distancing has never been in UK government guidance to schools. It admits it is impossible at schools. Essentially the measures are currently to limit classes to 15 plus staff and to minimise all interactions of that "bubble" with other bubbles. Ie staggering start end times, breaks, lunches etc.

Looks like only change in primary will be bubbles "up to class size" given many schools have classes over 30 they can't set that as upper limit.

Senior school it looks like while year group bubbles.

The evidence is still not solid but with covid-19 children don't appear to be a significant vector in the spread of the disease. Plus they are the safest group I believe only 2 under 15s have died in whole UK so the risk is extremely low for them personally.

@SW-User Doesn't look all that well planned out to me.

"not solid", "don't appear" - are you ready to risk your and others' lives on that? I'm not.

@Sharon see my other comment.

Problem is this disease was unknown a year ago so everything at the moment is "not solid" that's science sadly it takes time to have enough data to do enough analysis and come to agreed conclusions.

However I return to the statement from Research UK
Although the role children play in transmitting the virus is unclear, evidence consistently demonstrates that children are less likely than adults to acquire infection, and less likely to bring infections into households.[10]
Go there for the references to the actual papers. I've not read them myself only the analysis of the results.

I'm much more concerned about the number of rapid changes in a few weeks ie non essential shops reopening, hospitality this weekend etc

In these situations people from different households will be routinely in close proximity to others from outside their household and all the surfaces touched etc just scream virus transmission to me. It is the most likely way it'll spread and airborne droplets.

Sending the kids to school in a limited bubble where personal hygiene and room cleaning can be routinely enforced is to me far far safer. I can't understand why schools aren't already reopening actually given the other restrictions being lifted.

@SW-User
More important is that clothing is easy to launder
Good point, that would explain why the more responsible schools aren't enforcing uniform rules.

@Sharon my wife has been regularly writing home/phoning to explain sending the kids in day in day out in the same designer branded tracksuit though is completely against the spirit of the relaxation of the rules. 🤦‍♂️

@SW-User The problem is that schools spend so much time and effort in thinking up and enforcing petty, pointless, rules that it's difficult to ever take them seriously.

Yes, and the children will spread the disease. 😐️

@SW-User
you ever worked in science research?
Yes, I have an MSc in physics. Scientists are careful when expressing findings, unlike newpapers which routinely say - "scientist have proven..." :(
SW-User
@Sharon so you'll know then more than me (geography a level) that to state
evidence consistently demonstrates that children are less likely than adults to acquire infection, and less likely to bring infections into households
puts all their reputation on that statement. All their competitors would revel in shooting that assertion down in flames. So you only publish when you're sure you can prove your assertion.

@SW-User I'm sure they have the data to back up what they say but note the caution with which they say it.

Absolute fantasy that if you just re-arrange where people sit this whole thing suddenly ends !

The basics of this are abundantly clear ! This is not a disease that affects 'children' but may well adolescents and older !

So they can fanny around with everything as often as they like the same problem remains.
Adults are pissed-off that they are having to go back to work, in environments that can never be made 'safe', just because some idiot politician can say 'Yay the economy is returning !'

Really do need to get a grip on this and see it for what it is not everybody's fantasy of what they hope it will be !

Covid-19 is a Corona Virus as is the Common Cold these virus spread easily in the colder months there is a high transmission of this virus in some Southern States of the USA which are dry States this is influenced by everybody there using Air Conditioning Units in their Lorries, Trucks Cars and their Homes I agree with you the virus will be back again in September I will by then have stocked up on Masks Visors and food.
