Pretty fair assessment for the Spectator.

@Picklebobble2 That's what I thought. Sort of sums it up though. :)

@Picklebobble2 What about this theory? Not mine.

My thoughts on the Dominic Cummings fiasco.

I have got to ask myself why it has taken 7 weeks for this story to be leaked to the national press, and it was leaked, to 2 newspapers who both were claiming it as an exclusive last night.
So i started looking into who leaked the story because it came from an unnamed Number 10 source, it turned out that the unnamed source was non other than Cummings himself.
So now i'm asking why is a 7 week old story gifted to the press by the person it is going to harm the most?
My conclusion is a bit on the conspiracy theory side but it does stand up to scrutiny.

Given a promise of some very lucrative contracts by the Conservatives high and mighty, Cummings has agreed to be a fall guy to end the lockdown.
We all know that the Conservatives want the lockdown ending ASAP because their backers are losing Millions if not Billions, what better way than to show the Prime Ministers most senior advisor sticking 2 fingers up to the nation.
The lockdown will be impossible to maintain now, people are already pointing at him and saying "If it's good enough for him, then what's to stop me from doing it", i walked past a local shopping centre this evening and it was absolutely heaving with zero social distancing, what can the police do now, he's effectively pulled their teeth, they're all bark and no bite now.

So the lockdown ends, you go back to work, your kids go back to school, the millionaires become multi millionaires and a lot of people die but the most important thing is that you go back to work and start earning oodles of dosh for the Tory backers, which is what today has been all about, making bank balances swell so just close your eyes and think of the huge smiles on Branson and Co's faces as you weep over the dead body of a loved family member.

@Midnightoker1 Yes there had to be some way out of this and a 'set-up' to a 'fall guy' who has no official role would be a nice 'get out of jail free' card.

Unfortunately it still doesn't address the rather huge Elephant in the room.
That being, what do we do if it all goes horribly wrong and infections and deaths increase to the point where people start taking matters into their own hands ?

Boycotting public transport. Refusing to send their children to school. Withdrawing elderly relatives from care home situations. Challenging government via the High Court. Refusing to go to work in places where folk don't feel safe........
It's a really risky gamble. And it makes the assumption that people would rather do something different to what's already happening provided they get their Football and pubs back as a result !
Midnightoker1 · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 A huge gamble. But sadly people will be willing to gamble. :(
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Midnightoker1 You know what's really frustrating in all this ?
One poor old person with no family in a care home nobody knows is considered an acceptable death.

If just ONE child dies as a result of being sent back to school with so little control over anything in that environment, is that too going to be considered acceptable ?
Midnightoker1 · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 Just numbers to some. :(
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 Vast numbers of people die all the time. But I believe I’m right in saying that no child anywhere in the world is known to have died from Covid-19
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@MartinII How many would it take ? I mean old folk in care homes are dropping like flies and nobody seems to care how many of them there are.
If they did, policy in such places would change wouldn't it ?
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 Well as a start, it would take more than die all the time in an ordinary school term, from traffic accidents, accidents in the swimming pool or on school trips, the occasional stabbiing, etc etc.
