First week of Covid schoolyear

It has been much less chaotic than I expected. Teachers are quite overwhelmed by workload and all the covid procedures we had to learn in almost no time, but not afraid. Students are acting in a quite responsible way, assuming masks, disinfection and social distancing are a need in this time.

Common sense is what matters in the end, and common sense would be more prevalent if authorities would trust more people's self-preservation instincts and would not stifle us with lots of unnecessary regulations and prohibitions. Just set a few basic, clear rules, and give people some credit. Treat us like adults if you want us to behave like adults.

I think that will only work if the Spanish are smarter than the Americans. Here, if there aren’t actual mandates, people are pretending there’s no pandemic and making it worse than it needs to be. Even with the mandates, there are plenty thumbing their nose. Maybe our survival instinct is as rusty as our compassion. I would hope better over there, anyway. I’m very glad school has gone well so far. M’s been in for a few weeks now and says it’s still going really well, so that gives me hope you’ll be as lucky. It’s you teachers, you leaders that make the difference. Your hard work and effort is truly and absolutely amazing. I sincerely hope the year continues to exceed your expectations and you remain safe and well. 🤗

@JustNik There are always irresponsible people everywherr, but in general I think here people keep their survival instinct, and they are behaving much better than our obnoxious politicians.

My main complaint towards population in this pandemic is that we are too obedient, and do not react to illogical rules like having to wear a mask everywhere outdoors.

@Cierzo That does seem a strange rule. I haven’t seen any science saying that’s necessary. That horrible wave in the beginning must have them thinking they can’t be careful enough. Hoping they loosen up with time and get more reasonable for you!

I‘m glad to see that things are not as chaotic. Yes, people’s self preservation instincts will kick in and they will observe the rules put in place. Do take care of your own safety and health. That’s important to me. 😊

@novembermoon I know 😊. I do my best. Wearing a N95 mask for the whole morning is not pleasant, but it has to be done.

@Cierzo Chance the mask after two hours or so. Wearing the same mask for hours is not healthy.

Thank you for doing your job, for helping the kids who need you. You have my respect and admiration and gratitude. Be safe.

@SW-User Our duty is to go to school and teach kids, being careful, trying to stay as safe as possible. We must live with the pandemic, life must go on.

The first week is alway perfect. They first three weeks is almost perfects you need to wait a month before student feel comfortable being themselves in front of their new teachers.

But you’re right about self preservation in general. But the situation does not affect young in same way as old.

@Mindful I know things will be less perfect as weeks pass.
