I Really Love the Mountains
Jemez Mountains - 16 miles and an age from Santa Fe.
I still don't know for sure if I have to go to Arizona. My daughter has a fascinating habit of declaring a disaster and then going incommunicado. "Why were you freaking out? I'm okay!"
But my neighbor and I did drive to the mountains - the aspen leaf extravaganza is pretty much over, but the terrain is still lovely with its own severe beauty.
My neighbor is such a charmer - she still works out at the gym (she's 80) and made it very clear that she was having a wonderful time. We had to stop near a creek so she could "listen to the whispers of the cottonwood trees" for about ten minutes and it IS a friendly comforting noise.
