I Like School Uniforms

40 UK secondary schools now forbid girls from wearing skirts.

Our uniform was skirts only, mum made me wear knee socks and then tights when I was older. Boys and girls will always be different so what is the problem?

My guess is these schools want to avoid controversy involving boys who want to identify as trans-girls and wear skirts like the girls do. If skirts are banned, and they forbid a boy from wearing one, they can't be accused of transphobia because they don't allow girls to wear them either.

I think it’s a shame that the femininity of girls is being systematically denied.

Totally agree with this sir. When i do certain things then of course jeans are more appropriate, but if im on a night out or whatever then i prefer a skirt or a dress.

At school i always wore a skirt.

@harveyrider I get the feeling that it's not so much that they want to deny the femininity of their XX chromosome girls. They may anticipate that an XY chromosome student will declare themself a "girl" and insist on wearing a uniform skirt to school. By making all students wear pants, they can avoid a controversy.

@harveyrider I agree. Similarly keeping schoolboys in short trousers until a sensible age encouraged them to be active and carefree - boyish, in other words.

An example of the right on stupidity that's infected the education system in this country. A person who feels that strongly they "are" another gender will wish to identify clearly as one so a M2F child most probably does wish to wear a skirt or dress but in this "gender neutral" system actually they are not able to.
Equality was covered in must British schools by allowing Girls trousers - a battle of from the 80's and 90's and the only losers until recently were 11+ boy who preferred tailored shorts.
In short this doesn't actually help those transitioning in school and denies gender options used by adults.

So says RT, so it must be pravda (small 'p') then....

RT is a Russian news service so unlikely to have much sympathy for the West. (RT = Russia Today)

I noticed no-one has commented on the reference you cite - but did anyone else follow it?

A lot of schools do allow girls to wear smart trousers, but I wonder what, if any, truth there actually is in RT's claim.
