Never say but, when making a statement. It tells the reader/listener that you actually believe the opposite.

No offence but, means there's a really offensive statement coming next.

I'm not a racist but, means you know the thing you're about to say is racist.

No. I'm not a scientist, but.....means you're about to spout some stuff that you believe might be true, even though you have no way of proving it.

I'm not in favour of abortion but,,,,,,,,,I'm not in control so it's gonna happen anyhow.

I don't want to insult you but......really, don't you just want to tell that person to not bother saying what's coming next? You already know it's going to be insulting.

The fact is, you can go and find a thousand examples that will contradict me, if that's your wish. It doesn't mean that the examples I gave are incorrect.
