Japanese Work-Snack Tradition

In Japan, every place has its own traditional snacks that they sell to visitors/tourists in decorated boxes. Every little place has this. When you visit a place on the weekend, you buy the snacks of the local place and take them to work to give your colleagues. So every week people get to enjoy different snacks from different places.

Japan is cool!

Yes Japanese cuisine is lovely. Even their fast food is great; I love onigiri, which is rice formed into triangular shape and wrapped in seaweed. Inside you'll find a nice little surprise like salted salmon, or any other sour or salty ingredient. Yummie! 馃構

@helenS That's a staple breakfast food for students to grab on the way to school. But the center part....yuck. Pickled plum is common. Yuck. I think the Russians tricked them into this in order to cleverly ruin the onigiri.

@uncleshawn I've been in Japan many times, and I essentially lived on onigiri. They cost about $1 a piece, so you need only $3 or $4 a day for food.

@helenS I used to live there. How come I didn't see you? ....Please eat my onigiri. I'll go for the microwave dumplings or something.

I'm known to my friends as the invisible girl...
Fun fact: I found bottles of Italian mineral water in a supermarket in Nagoya... and fruits are terribly expensive 馃槓

@helenS Yes. So expensive. But all their homegrown fruits are so cute.
