why is everyone pressurising me into getting a job?

my parents, my psychiatrist, my occupational therapist, theyre all like you should do this and that to get a job..... im sick though and sick people dont work, i just want an easy life, where i dont have to go out to work everyday and can just laze about being ill and all that... anyhow the government still say im too ill to work and thats all that matters really, as long as my disability benefits keep rolling in ill be fine, but if my psychiatrist says im well enough to work at some point then ill be out the door and into the real world,i hope that day does not come soon

I have a friend with schotzophrenia, I met him through a chat tech support job. I think, and I could be wrong, that socializing and having a schedule might help you manage it, it did for him. He preferred the chat position which is like texting almost because it allowed him to help people without the frustrations that come with talking on the phones-which is a huge pain in the butt.
I don’t think having any mental disorder(and I have a few of my own) that doesn’t put you in a mental hospital permanently is a good reason to simply be lazy if I’m completely honest. Maybe a different type of lifestyle would interest you if you have an issue with the ‘daily grind’ that often is working for corporations and such. I’m going to homestead for example, while the bulk of the money for a while will come from my partner who wishes to have an actual job I will be selling things that are grown on our land, produce and such. Eventually i hope I’ll be able to contribute financially to the household, though in the end either way I’ll be saving us money. It’s a bit more work but I like the idea of working for myself and for my partner rather than for someone I don’t know and facing people who are rude etc.

I know this was long, I tend to ramble sometimes, I apologize.

I'm afraid I haven't got much patience with people like you who are too idle to work. You have advice from the professionals in your life that getting a job will be a good idea and would help you. It might be a good idea to get out of your malaise and take their advice.

having some responsibility is very important for the human psyche, when I started doing a few hours after being off work with depression and anxiety for a while it made a huge difference to how I felt.

It's funny how you don't want to work but don't mind being a burden on others

@TheCoolestCat where do the disability benefits come from then?
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
the money tree in my garden

@TheCoolestCat Ohhh you're just here for the smart ass comments! got it, thing is people like me with jobs water that money tree with money from our paychecks. So you are in fact a burden, on me no less! Get a job, grow up, act like a man! It's not easy, that's why people respect you for it!

Because a job can provide a good distraction /purpose.

I'm sorry I didn't realise you're schizophrenic. I've thought I am at a point, was intensely introverted and on high alert all the time. Managed to overcome it through sheer determination because I didn't want to continue feeling this way. Seeing as I was already at the bottom I could only go up, and I wasn't prepared to stay where I was.

wishing yourself to stay ill simply so you don't have to work... pathetic

you'd drop that attitude quick if you had to suffer through an actual injury...
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
I have an inoperable neck injury due to fractured 5th and 6th vertebra, a lower back that still contains bits of shrapnel to this day, arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc.

I'd want nothing more than to be perfectly healthy and working without pain again...
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@wildbill83 would you wish it though?!
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@JovialPlutonian absolutely, you know how humiliating it is to see someone twice your age get around better than you do?
GerOttman · 61-69, M
What you need is a government job! Good benefits not much to do, just basically show up long enough to get a pension. Stay away from the post office, too much walking, try the education or transportation department.
Evilnine86 · 36-40, M
Can I ask what disability you're dealing with?
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
schizophrenia
Evilnine86 · 36-40, M
@TheCoolestCat ok. Well I can only imagine how hard it must be to deal with. I think you should do it at your own terms. Don't feel pressured into doing it. Maybe start small and easy with a few hours of work and see how it goes
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
Is this a joke? 🤔
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
uh no
