I Can Cook
I've been trying different things lately, like prawns, muscles and mushrooms.
With muscles, there are a number of things to be mindful of, such as:
1) Is the shell broken? If so, toss it.
2) If the shell is open, and if you tap it and it doesn't close, throw it away.
3) Get rid of the beard/fiber-like stuff.
4) Leave the muscles in a bowl of water in the fridge for 4 hours with oats in the water (I can imagine the oats part is optional, and that it's to cause the muscles to release any dirt or grit that they contain).
With the muscles, when I cooked them in a pot, if someone said so I can understand why s/he said a large pot, because the liquid was spilling out of the pot onto the stove, even though I added just a little water. Messy business...
