I Hated Mommys Hairbrush When I Was A Kid

@JayneA How would you rank them? What was your least favorite?

@JayneA I didn't get the belt many times but I found the hairbrush worse as it was a constant stream of whacks but with the strap you got some pause between strokes

It was the same for me. When I got the slipper or cane I had to bend over for a set number of whacks. An OTK hair brushing however, was a hard and fast indeterminate number of strokes.

@Sharon exactly my point and no pauses between whacks so you couldn't get ready for the next stroke

@Denise61 Yes, with the slipper or cane I knew how many more I had left to receive. WHACK! - only 11 more to go; WHACK! - only 10 more to go...

@Sharon yes and you could prepare yourself mentally, but not knowing is worse because you have no idea how many more are coming, plus you are still feeling the effect of a blow and another one lands

Do you think the hairbrush was more used on girls than boys and if so why was that?

I'd agree with that. That could translate into girls being more likely to get the hairbrush if they were more likely to be spanked by their mothers. My husband got the hairbrush off his mother and aunts.

@Tripdelta4 I feel that you might have given the answer in the reply, my father used the strap in our house so maybe if my mother had done the disciplining then it may have been the hairbrush as well

@Tripdelta4 yes that's correct, I got a few smacks etc from mum when younger but once I reached senior school it was dad's strap for me,

But for me the hairbrush was relentless as you got no restbite from the whacks

@Denise61 We both have our doubts about whether the wooden boards of education are truly educational but there can be little doubt about JayneA's claim that visits from the hairbrush leave reminders that spring into action when you forget and plop down carelessly.

@Denise61 Yes the reminders were often made deliberately and lasted for days, often very difficult to hide
