Is it me or would you feel the same?

So a family member has sent me a text telling me good news. I wished them well and said my congratulations but deep down I could careless.I could careless because we hardly ever text/chat/connect with one another etc. I just see the relative as a distant stranger now. I focus my energy/connections on people who connect with me and that I built familiarity with based on similar interest.

Yes, I would feel the same. I have a distant cousin who has been trying to contact me, because I am in a new stage in my life.

I've reached out to this cousin several times over the years. Would always stand me up, flake out, cancel plans etc (we used to be normal cousins I guess.)

I got tired of it And stopped communicating with her.

Now here she is...I'm not making any time for her

@iamnikki When growing up I would visit my aunts house and hangout with my cousin. We did stuff together like watch tv and dance. As we got older we just became distant. Focused on our own lives but even if so other relatives kept in contact with me more so often. Like hearing good news from those who you chat with not every day but once in awhile is good. But hearing good news from a relative that you hardly talk to don't have much feelings to care lol.

@OpalFlower yea I get that. I don't care either

Blood is thicker then water.. Don't burn your family bridges.. Because you may find out that your ""Friends"" will turn out to be only ""good times friends only"" once you hit some hard times they will evaporate like water..

@Adstar Sadly family can do you even worse, thats why I've never liked that saying.

@REMsleep Of course.. If your family was / is a toxic one then avoiding them is reasonable.. But if it is only the case of not being in regular contact then cutting contact when it does happen is not wise..
OpalFlower · 31-35, F
@Adstar I mean I am not necessarily burning bridges and not cutting contact. I did reply back to her text with good wishes but she won't be hearing much from me unless she texts me first about something and my replies are going to be short and sweet.

Maybe this person is trying to stay connected or open the lines of communication with youMaybe this person is trying to stay connected or open the lines of communication with you

@REMsleep Yea maybe but to be honest I just sense superficiality and bullcrap. The text going to be short lived and we won't hear from one another in months to a year. Just another distant stranger.

@OpalFlower I understand I have a "friend" that is exactly like that
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@OpalFlower I know exactly what you mean
