As a professor I wish I had a dollar for all the students who sought a rounding up. Like I never would have thought about that on my own.

@BiasForAction so why didnt you?
BiasForAction · M
Because I am generous in my grading and an 89 with generous grading is not an A
GirlSerendipity · 26-30, F
@BiasForAction i guess that kinda makes sense but still to be such a crazy small percentage away
BiasForAction · M
If you knew the grading policy before the class started, why complain about it now? Suck it up, buttercup.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@BiasForAction which proves you are petty. In the long run it makes zero difference but you think you are superior.
BiasForAction · M
@MasterLee because i don't round up? LOL
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@BiasForAction no because you think you are so superior
BiasForAction · M
It isn't a mater of superiority, it is a matter of integrity. The syllabus--given out on day 1 in a typical college class, lays out the grading policy, including rounding. To deviate from the grading policy shows a lack of integrity. Let's look more closely at this, if a professor rounds up to give a student a better grade than he or she deserves based on the established grading policy, shouldn't a professor round down to give a student a worse grade than he or she deserves?

@BiasForAction it is unreasonable.

@BiasForAction I actually agree with you. I worked very hard for the grades I received. Anytime I saw anything approaching less than I wanted in a class, I doubled down and worked harder in that class. If I found out someone else got "rounded" into the same grade I got into by working my ass off, I'd be pissed.
Make the rules fair.
Make the rules known.
Then stick with the rules.

There’s really no other way
GirlSerendipity · 26-30, F
@BiasForAction @sarabee1995 i think the other way is to be flexible with the rules!

@BiasForAction 👍
@GirlSerendipity But is that fair to the person who studied her ass off and got a 90.1%?? There has to be some cut off. It sucks for sure and I'm sorry you ended up on that side of it, but there has to be some cut off.
