The Words: Mortal Challenge Dreamer Focused Drifting Beyond
What Lies Beyond
Walter lay still and silent in his bed, listening to the beeps and whir of the machines. In the hall outside his door, the night shift nurses chatted and gossiped in secretive and hushed tones as they focused on their charts and paperwork.
His body felt heavy, cumbersome, making it a challenge to even breath. His body had finally betrayed him, and there was nothing he could do to fight it anymore.
Suddenly, he felt a hand softly grip his, so full of warmth and tenderness, he knew the touch at once without even opening his eyes.
"Doris?" He asked in wonder, as he felt the warm glow of the sun upon his face, the cool spray of the sea on his skin. "Am I dreaming this?"
He opened his eyes to see the soft smile he had missed for so very long. He had never felt so peaceful and at ease, as if he were drifting upon the soothing currents of bliss.
She was there, before him, dressed in a white and twice as radiant as even his fondest memories of her could have ever been.
"We are here, my love." She told him softly, looking into his eyes as the evening sunlight bathed her in its glow. "Together again."
"What is this place?" He asked in awe, as he raised his arms skyward, suddenly young, strong and healthy once more. "Is this heaven?"
"If you like." She answered gently. "It can be anyplace you like, anytime you desire. For what is heaven, but a Dreamer that has moved beyond the dreams of the mortal world?"
