I drove a truck for over 26 years. It was the only career I was ever truly good at, and was more than just a job to me, it was a lifestyle.

Going down the Interstate, or some backroad highway, completely alone with nothing but my thoughts and music was the closest thing to peace I ever knew in my life. Driving in that sleek, cobalt blue Kenworth was the closest thing to home I had ever felt.

Like just about every truck driver on the planet, I cussed and complained about my job to anyone who would listen. But the truth is, no other feeling could replace opening the throttle and getting up to speed to put some distance between me and the last town I spent the night in.

I have seen some amazing things out there on the road, and driven in conditions that would make some people wet themselves, from the autumn leaves of the East Coast and New England states, to the treacherous, icy hills of Cabbage in the north, to the slow speed limits for trucks on the California coast.

I never would have believed how much I miss my old truck or the job.
